NEW YORK — St. Nicholas of Myra Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church marked its 100th anniversary with a festive celebration on Sunday, November 24, honoring a century of worship, culture, and community on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The jubilee was led by Metr. Gregory of Nyssa, head of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese of North America, who presided at the Divine Liturgy at the historic church on East 10th Street.

Before the service, Metr. Gregory tonsured two readers and later preached on the importance of engaging children fully in the life of the Church. The celebration continued with a banquet at LiGreci’s The Staaten in Staten Island, featuring live music and dancing.

During the festivities, the Metropolitan presented gramotas to ten of the parish’s eldest members for their service on the parish council, while Sunday School teachers past and present received gifts. The parish council also honored rector Fr. William Bennett with a custom icon marking the 10th anniversary of his ordination and assignment to St. Nicholas.

Previously, the UOJ reported that a Serbian parish celebrated the burning of their mortgage.
