Albania Marks One Year Since Repose of Abp. Anastasios

TIRANA, ALBANIA — On January 25, 2026, the Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Albania marked the one-year anniversary of the repose of the blessed Abp. Anastasios with a solemn memorial at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana. Clergy, monastics, and faithful gathered in prayerful remembrance of the hierarch whose leadership restored Orthodox life in Albania after decades of persecution.

The Divine Liturgy and memorial service were accompanied by reflections on Abp. Anastasios’ enduring spiritual legacy. Abp. John, who presided at the commemoration, emphasized that remembrance is not merely ceremonial but essential for drawing strength and guidance from the life of the departed shepherd.

In his homily, Abp. John recalled the late primate’s vision for the Church and quoted his teaching that “Love has no boundaries.” He highlighted Abp. Anastasios’ witness of faith expressed through service, unity, and hope, noting that his life demonstrated the Resurrection not as abstract doctrine but as lived reality within the Church and society.
