Greek Metropolis: Recognition of OCU is a pre-eminent scandal for GOC

The Piraeus Metropolis of the Greek Orthodox Church believes that the recognition of the OCU is a scandal of the highest standard, according to the Greek resource “Vima Orthodoxias”.

the Office for Heresies and Religions of the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus published a long letter criticizing the current state of the Catholic Church and the Western world as a whole, and also points out the existence of big problems in the religious life of Greece.

Thus, the appeal analyzes an article by Professor Georgios Piperopoulos, which says that in Greece, due to the pandemic, the number of believers participating in the Sacraments has sharply decreased, and Greek youth are moving away from religion. Piperopoulos believes that the reasons for this " are found in our humble opinion in the erosion of Greek society by New Age ideology and the secularization of ecclesiastical life".

However, according to the Metropolis of Piraeus, these reasons should be added by “two more pre-eminent scandals” – the recognition of the OCU by the Church of Greece and the unwillingness to condemn the heresy of ecumenism synodally.

The Metropolia is sure that “the recognition by the majority of our hierarchs of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church, that is, the recognition that the schismatic formation of Epifaniy, excommunicated, anathematized and unchurched, with the least flock, constitutes the ‘official Autocephalous Church of Ukraine’ - this is another deep wound in the body of our Local Church."

As earlier reported, according to Metropolitan Seraphim of Piraeus, "autocephaly" for the OCU leads Orthodoxy to a dangerous path.
