Greek Church Honors Victims of Tragedies in Romania and Trikala

ATHENS, GREECE — In a solemn and emotional gathering, a memorial service was held Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at the Synodal Chapel of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece to honor the victims of two recent tragedies.
The service commemorated the seven PAOK supporters who lost their lives in a traffic accident in Romania and the five women killed in a workplace accident at the “Violanta” factory in Trikala. His Beatitude Abp. Jerome of Athens and All Greece presided, joined by members of the Holy Synod, offering prayers for the repose of the departed.
Through the Trisagion service, the Church expressed its profound sorrow over the incidents, emphasizing solidarity with the families and loved ones affected. The Hierarchs highlighted the importance of communal prayer and remembrance in times of tragedy, while also urging society to support and console those left behind. The service reinforced the Church’s role in providing spiritual care and comfort in moments of collective grief.
