Metropolis of Chicago Launches Project HOPE Sunday

LOMBARD, IL — The Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago announced the launch of its first annual Project HOPE Sunday, to be observed on Meatfare Sunday, February 15, with coordinated philanthropic action across six Midwestern states.

What began as a grassroots response to community need during the 2020 pandemic has developed into a full Metropolis-wide ministry focused on addressing hunger at the local level. On Project HOPE Sunday, parishes will unite following Divine Liturgy to prepare and distribute non-perishable food bags to shelters and families in need within their communities.

Metr. Nathanael of Chicago emphasized the ecclesial significance of the initiative, noting that parishes acting together demonstrate the Church as “one body” serving with a shared purpose. The effort also builds on Project HOPE’s ongoing collaboration with the Young Adult League, which has already helped distribute more than 100,000 meals through previous initiatives.

The Metropolis views the 2026 launch as a foundation for expanding participation and charitable impact in the years ahead.
