ROSWELL, GA — Clergy of the southern deaneries of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia’s Eastern American Diocese concluded their Great Lenten retreat March 11 with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts at St. Mary of Egypt Church.
More than 50 priests and deacons gathered to greet Metr. Nicholas, who presided at the service. Also praying in the altar was Metr. Jonah (Paffhausen). During the Little Entrance, Priest Demetrio Romeo of St. Vladimir Church in Miami was awarded the right to wear the gold pectoral cross, while Priest Daniel Gregoire of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Summerville, SC, was granted the right to wear the kamilavka.
The wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God was present throughout the retreat, bringing particular joy to clergy and faithful. Many parishioners attended the weekday service and received Holy Communion.
Previously, the UOJ reported that an OCA diocese launched free small group clergy retreats.
