Surge in Converts Marks Metr. Saba’s First Visit to North Carolina

FUQUAY-VARINA, NC — From March 20–22, 2026, Metr. Saba made his first archpastoral visits to North Carolina, visiting parishes experiencing a notable rise in catechumens and converts. On March 21, he was warmly received at St. Raphael Mission during the fourth Saturday of Great Lent, marking a historic first for his ministry in the state.

The visit began with the Third Hour service, followed by a wide-ranging discussion on the Orthodox faith. Metr. Saba emphasized that Orthodoxy is not merely theological study but “life with God,” encouraging the faithful to encounter God through lived experience. He also addressed questions on suffering, divine will, and daily spiritual life, offering pastoral insights grounded in experience and tradition.

The parish, which currently has 50 catechumens, anticipates receiving 17 through baptism or chrismation on Lazarus Saturday. The visit concluded with a joyful exchange between the Metropolitan and parish children, who presented a handmade banner, followed by fellowship shared among clergy and faithful.
