NEW YORK — Abp. Elpidophoros of America welcomed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to the Archdiocesan headquarters for his first official visit since taking office, marking a cordial and substantive introduction between the two leaders. The meeting centered on shared commitments to public service and the well-being of the city’s diverse communities.

During their conversation, Abp. Elpidophoros congratulated the mayor on his electoral victory, describing it as a hopeful moment for many New Yorkers and an opportunity to restore confidence in civic life. Mayor Mamdani, in turn, expressed appreciation for the Church’s role in serving the marginalized, noting that its mission to uplift the overlooked aligns closely with the responsibilities of city leadership.

The Archbishop also invited the mayor to attend New York’s annual Greek Independence Day Parade on April 26, highlighting its importance for the Greek American community. The visit concluded with the presentation of a silver icon of the Hospitality of Abraham, symbolizing compassion and openness toward others.

Previously, the UOJ reported that HCHC celebrated Clean Monday with Abp. Elpidophoros.
