Abp. Mark Visits Holy Apostles Parish for Lenten Weekend

MECHANICSBURG, PA — Abp. Mark of Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania made an archpastoral visit to Holy Apostles Church from March 21–22, coinciding with the Fourth Sunday of Great Lent, dedicated to St. John Climacus. He presided over divine services, offered Lenten exhortations, and met with parishioners.
On Saturday, the archbishop was welcomed by Archpriest Timothy Hojnicki and the faithful before Great Vespers. Following the service, he encouraged the community in their spiritual struggles, emphasizing faith over emotion. A Lenten meal and an evening lecture on the formation of the New Testament canon provided further opportunities for fellowship and learning.
On Sunday, Abp. Mark presided at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, where Augustine Merten was tonsured as a reader. In his homily, he encouraged the faithful to actively grow in virtue during Lent. The weekend wrapped up with a shared meal, time together as a parish, and a practical discussion on confession with those preparing to enter the Church.
