Usyk: My soul belongs to God, while my honor belongs to the country

In an interview with CNN sports correspondent Don Riddell, world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk spoke about the reasons that prompted him to join the territorial defense squad. This was reported by Strana.ua in its Telegram channel.

“I didn’t go to the front line to fight, I’m defending my home, my family, those I love,” Usyk said. “There are many bastards who are trying to cash in on this, marauders. We help people. I must do it... I'm a man."

In response to a correspondent’s question whether Usyk was ready to take other people’s lives, the boxer replied, “If they want to take my life or the life of my loved ones, I will have to do it. If they intend to kill me, I will have no other choice.”

Usyk stressed, “My soul belongs to God, and my body and honor belong to my country, my family. There is no fear, I'm just bewildered how this can occur in the 21st century.”

As the UOJ wrote, Usyk urged Putin to stop the war.
