Bp. Dionysios of Zenoupolis Consecrated to Episcopacy in Chicago

CHICAGO — Bp. Dionysios of Zenoupolis was ordained to the Holy Episcopacy by Abp. Elpidophoros on Saturday, marking a significant moment for the Ecumenical Patriarchate and Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America. The consecration was celebrated with reverence at Ss. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Palos Hills, Illinois, as clergy and faithful gathered to welcome a new shepherd into the episcopal ministry.

By the grace of the Holy Spirit, Bp. Dionysios now assumes his role as Auxiliary Bishop to Metr. Nathanael of Chicago. His election was confirmed earlier this month by the Holy Synod under Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. Born in Sparta, Greece, he brings years of pastoral, academic, and administrative experience to his new ministry.

The ordination service — conducted entirely in Greek — was also attended by His Eminence Metr. Nathanael of Chicago, as well as Their Eminences Savas of Pittsburgh, Apostolos of New Jersey, Constantine of Denver, and Bp. Dionysios' uncle, Theoktistos of Fokida. Their Graces Nektarios of Diokleia, Athenagoras of Nazianzos, and Anthony of Synada were also at the episcopal consecration.

The faithful proclaimed “Axios! Axios! Axios!”—“Worthy!”—praying that his ministry will be blessed for many years to serve the Church with wisdom, humility, and strength.
