KIEV, UKRAINE — Metr. Onuphry delivered his Palm Sunday homily at the Church of St. Agapit, near the Kiev Caves Lavra, calling the faithful to practice humility and keep their focus on eternal life rather than earthly pursuits.

Reflecting on Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Met. Onuphry highlighted the Savior’s choice of a humble donkey rather than a royal chariot, despite conquering death by raising Lazarus: "If you’ve done something good, don’t mount the chariot of pride—sit upon the humble donkey of the Gospel." He reminded believers that good deeds are not accomplished by human strength or wealth, but by God’s power, and that Christians must remain instruments of divine will rather than seek personal glory.

The Metropolitan also drew attention to Christ’s words that “if they fell silent, the very stones would cry out,” emphasizing that creation itself bears witness to God. He encouraged the faithful to consider the impermanence of earthly life and to prepare for the everlasting spiritual life that follows, closing with a prayer for guidance in pursuing eternity with Christ.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Onuphry marked 55 years since his monastic tonsure.
