CANCÚN, MEXICO — With the blessing of His Eminence Teofan and His Eminence Nicolae, Fr. Cristian Constantin Popa spent more than a month serving the Romanian Orthodox community in Cancún from Palm Sunday through the Paschal season. His visit is part of the Church’s ongoing pastoral care for Romanians abroad.
The priest served within the Romanian Orthodox Mission of St. Joseph the Confessor, Bishop of Maramureș, fulfilling Holy Week services and celebrating the Resurrection of Christ with the faithful. Under the pastoral guidance of Fr. Daniel Ene, Eparchial Vicar of the Romanian Orthodox Metropolia of the Americas, the mission emphasized continuity, prayer, and missionary outreach. Additional services were also celebrated in Mexico City, including at the St. Sophia Cathedral with the blessing of His Eminence Iakovos, where Romanian faithful and embassy representatives were present.
The mission’s patronal feast on April 26 marked a growing community life, highlighted by a wedding and the reception of a Mexican catechumen into the Orthodox Church through Chrismation. Church leaders said these events reflect a living and expanding Orthodox presence in Mexico sustained by visiting clergy and local faithful.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Tikhon made an archpastoral visit to the Diocese of Mexico.
