CHICAGO — The Pilgrimage of Discovery Alumni Leadership Network (ALN) held its second annual retreat April 17–19, 2026, in Chicago, bringing together alumni of the Orthodox youth pilgrimage program for leadership training, fellowship, and planning for future initiatives. The program is funded by the Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate and donors across the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOARCH).
The Pilgrimage of Discovery sends Orthodox Christian young adults to Constantinople, with stops including the Phanar, Hagia Sophia, and the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George. The ALN continues that experience through mentorship, education on the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and leadership development after participants return to the United States.
This year’s retreat included meetings at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, a social gathering with Archons at Orso’s Restaurant, and participation in Chicago’s Greek Independence Day Parade alongside the Evzones. Participants also met with clergy, including Archimandrite Fr. Nephon Tsimalis, for a Q&A session on church life and the “Mother Church."
Organizers said the network will continue expanding, with plans already underway for next year’s retreat near Boston.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Saba met with youth ministry leaders in Englewood.
