OCA Leaders Attend National Gathering on Clergy Financial Health

INDIANAPOLIS — Leaders from the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) participated this week in a national gathering focused on the financial and vocational challenges facing clergy families and pastoral leaders. The event, held May 11–13, brought together religious leaders, nonprofit practitioners, and support organizations through an initiative funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. and hosted by the Center for Congregations.

Representing the OCA at the gathering was Bp. Andrei of Cleveland, who attended with the blessing of Abp. Nathaniel and at the invitation of the Office of Pastoral Life’s Financial Health Initiative. Participants met with ministry leaders and resource providers to discuss ways Orthodox communities and other religious institutions can better support clergy households navigating economic pressures and long-term vocational concerns.

Also participating from the Office of Pastoral Life were Nicholas Solak, Stephen Vernak, PJ Gorman, and Mary Buletza. Organizers said the conference emphasized practical support systems for clergy families, including financial stewardship, sustainability in ministry, and overall family well-being.

The Financial Health Initiative of the Office of Pastoral Life has increasingly focused on addressing economic realities affecting clergy and their families, while also encouraging broader conversations about pastoral care, stability, and healthy ministry environments across Orthodox parishes.
