MIDDLETOWN, NY — Metr. Saba spent May 25 in prayer and fellowship at St. Dumitru the New Romanian Orthodox Monastery, where he was welcomed by members of the monastic community and visiting clergy from Romania.
Upon arriving at the monastery, the Antiochian hierarch was received by Archimandrite Jeremiah, the monastery’s abbot, along with Archimandrite Melchisedec, abbot of the historic Putna Monastery in Romania. The visit centered on prayer, spiritual conversation, and time spent with the monastery’s brotherhood.
The gathering unfolded in an atmosphere of Christian love and fraternal fellowship. Metr. Saba joined the abbots and monastics for shared prayers and later participated in a common meal with the community. Discussions during the visit focused on spiritual life and the bonds connecting Orthodox monastic communities in North America and Romania.
Located in New York’s Hudson Valley region, St. Dumitru Orthodox Monastery has become a growing center of Romanian Orthodox monastic life in the United States. The visit by Metr. Saba further reflected ongoing ties among Orthodox jurisdictions and monastic communities across the broader Orthodox world.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a Romanian Orthodox Youth Day was planned in Toronto.
