CHICAGO — Abp. Daniel of the Orthodox Church in America's (OCA) Diocese of Chicago and the Midwest issued a Pentecost message to clergy, monastics, and faithful across the diocese, calling on Orthodox Christians to seek spiritual renewal through the grace of the Holy Spirit while also congratulating graduates and encouraging families entering the summer season.

In his May 26 archpastoral greeting, Abp. Daniel reflected on the biblical account of Pentecost, recalling the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in Jerusalem. Abp. Daniel emphasized the traditional seven-fold gifts of the Spirit — wisdom, understanding, counsel, courage, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord — and prayed that the same Spirit would continue to guide the diocesan community toward a deeper life in Christ.

The Archbishop also offered special recognition to students graduating at various educational levels throughout the diocese. He praised their perseverance and academic achievements, encouraging them to use their talents in service to both Christ and the Church. He described their accomplishments as a blessing not only to their families, but also to parish communities across the diocese.

Looking ahead to the summer months, Abp. Daniel urged the faithful to balance recreation and travel with prayer, worship, and acts of charity. He encouraged participation in parish life and asked God to grant the faithful safety, fellowship, and spiritual growth during the summer season.

Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Daniel welcomed Bp. Vasily in Chicago.
