Holy Virgin Cathedral Purchases New Building Across from Richmond District Site
The Holy Virgin Cathedral purchase expands parish infrastructure while adding limited but welcomed relief to long-standing parking challenges.
SAN FRANCISCO — The Holy Virgin Cathedral community has announced the purchase of a new property at 6221 Geary Boulevard in the city’s Richmond District, a site located directly across the street from the cathedral and described by parish leaders as a significant step toward long-term growth and stability.
With the blessing of Abp. Kyrill, the acquisition is being presented as both a practical expansion of parish space and a strategic investment in the future of the community. Leaders said the building replaces a previously planned parking-lot development project and will instead serve as an income-producing asset intended to support parish operations for years to come.
To manage the property, the parish has established the Holy Virgin Cathedral Endowment Fund 2, a committee responsible for overseeing operations and financial stability. The group will be led by President James Able, Treasurer Victor Collaco, and committee members Peter Bogatsky, Ksenya Kulish, and Greg Bogatsky, according to the announcement.
Attention is also turning to parking logistics for the new facility, which includes 17 indoor parking spaces. Church officials said a blessing and open house will be held on June 20, followed by a trial parking run on June 28. Full parking operations are expected to begin the following week in conjunction with the Feast of St. John Maximovitch, with final schedules and rules to be posted on the cathedral’s website.
