Head of DECR MP: UOC Council confirmed the 1990 Tomos of Patriarch Alexy

The head of the DECR MP, Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev), stated that the Council of the UOC, which took place on May 27, 2022 in Feofania, confirmed the 1990 Tomos issued by Patriarch Alexy.

The hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church spoke about this in his video message, which was published on his Telegram page.

“The Council of the UOC took place yesterday, which confirmed the status this Church has had since 1990, when it received the Tomos of self-government from His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Rus. Today, many hostile forces are sent there to destroy this Church. The schismatics are trying to take away its property, the Ukrainian authorities have organized persecution of this Church. In a number of regions, the UOC is banned, its churches are locked up, temples are seized by force, the UOC is being deprived of its legal name, renamed into the 'ROC in Ukraine',” Metropolitan Hilarion noted.

“By yesterday’s decisions, the UOC once again testified that it is completely self-governing, that its church center is not in Moscow, but in Kyiv, it does not depend on Moscow either administratively, or financially, or in any other respects. The unity between the Russian and Ukrainian Churches is preserved, and we will continue to strengthen this unity, we will continue to pray for our one Holy Orthodox Church,” added Metropolitan Hilarion.

As previously reported by the UOJ, the Council declared full independence of the UOC.
