Seven do not wait for one: Kiev residents take on cleaning the monument to Prince Vladimir

On March 22, the "Ukrainian community" held the first "cleanup" to clean the monument to Prince Vladimir, said on his Facebook page publicist Dmitry Skvortsov.

Two weeks ago, the "Ukrainian community" applied to the Kiev city administration for the admission of a bucket lift to the Vladimir Hill to clear the monument to the Baptist of Rus on Pure Thursday. However, the organization has not received an answer so far.

"Instead of putting in order one of the landmarks of ancient Kiev, the city administration preferred to spend six million to erect a monument to the collaborator Teliga. But as soon as the monument was marred with paint by provocateurs, it was cleaned by the urgent command of Ukraine's vice-premier for a day," the journalist writes.

He said that, seeing the double standards of officials, the indifferent Kievites decided to start cleaning the monument to Vladimir, without waiting for the "technical approach". "We started the work on the stylobate (in exact accordance with the Technology of repair and restoration works, which was developed by the request of the" Ukrainian community "member of the International Council for the Preservation of Monuments and Sites, Academician Yu. N. Strilenko). The head of the Kiev organization of the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture, E.M. Serdiuk was also present."

Voluntary restorers cleaned the pedestal from Nazi symbols and selected the optimal solvent for the cast-iron bas-relief.

Skvortsov said that based on the results of the experimental work, the methods and means for cleaning the monument to Prince Vladimir were finally established. All we can do is to wait for the permission of the mayor's office to admit a bucket lift to carry out full-fledged works at altitude.

In September 2016, a monument to St. Prince Vladimir was thrown with bottles of red paint. Since then, the communal services have cleared only the commemorative plaque under the monument and the sidewalk.
On March 18, unknown people spattered a recently erected monument to Elena Teliga in the territory of Babi Yar. According to media reports, Deputy Prime-Minister Pavel Rozenko demanded that the mayor Vitali Klitschko immediately get the monument back to normal, which was done.
