Verkhovna Rada can prohibit abortions

People's deputy from the BPP faction Dmitry Golubov proposes to prohibit abortions, allowing an artificial termination of pregnancy only for medical indications or in case the conception is a result of rape, writes Strana.

The corresponding bill № 6239 on the restriction of artificial termination of pregnancy (abortion) is registered in the Verkhovna Rada, the text of the document was published on the Parliament's website on March 27.

The legislator proposes to exclude the norm, which is in the Civil Code of Ukraine, that an artificial termination of pregnancy up to 12 weeks can be carried out at the request of a woman. The MP proposes to allow abortion only in circumstances set out by law, if the pregnancy does not exceed 22 weeks.

The bill provides that abortion can be performed in health establishments if pregnancy poses a direct threat to the life of a pregnant woman, if there is a medical indication of the pathology of the fetus that is incompatible with the life of the child after birth, and if the conception is a result of rape.

The author of the bill is a member of the parliamentary committee on legal policy and justice.
