The Kiev Prosecutor's Office submitted to the court an indictment against a man suspected of setting fire to the building on the territory of the National Kiev-Pechersk Reserve, reports Segodnya”.

“According to the results of the preliminary investigation, the indictment under Part 2 of Art. 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (deliberate damage to someone else's property, committed by arson) against the arsonist is sent to the Pechersk District Court of Kiev for consideration," the communication says.

We recall that on January 14, a separate building related to the monastery complex on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk National Park caught fire. The fire started in one of the rooms on the second floor with the subsequent spread of fire to the roof.

As the abbot of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel of Vyshgorod and Chernobyl, reported, the arsonist turned out to be a homeless 24-year-old man who was in a state of drug intoxication at the time of the crime. According to Vladyka, a few days before the incident, the arsonist, together with his friends, entered the defunct two-story building – the former laboratory building of the hospital, which is planned to open on the territory of the monastery – and stayed there to live. “They must have been at odds about something, and he, taking gasoline or diesel, poured it and set it on fire on the second floor,” said Metropolitan Pavel.
