MILTON, ON — The only monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Canada marked its Slava on the Great Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ with a solemn Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.

The service was led by Metropolitan Longin of New Gracanica–Chicago, joined by Metropolitan Mitrofan of Canada, clergy of the Eastern Canadian Deanery, and priests of the Romanian Orthodox Church. In his homily, Metropolitan Longin urged unity among Orthodox Christians around the Holy Liturgy, reminding the faithful that true national unity flows from unity in Christ.

The celebration drew a wide gathering, including Serbia’s Ambassador to Canada, Dejan Ralevic, as well as representatives of cultural, patriotic, and church organizations. Metropolitan Mitrofan expressed gratitude to Metropolitan Longin and clergy from the Russian, Georgian, and Romanian churches, and presented Ambassador Ralevic with an icon of Saint Sava in recognition of his cooperation.

Following the liturgy, godparents of the Slava, Danijel and Jovana Skrga of Montreal, together with the Blaga Marija Circle of Serbian Sisters from Kitchener, hosted a feast for several hundred guests. The festivities continued with performances of epic songs by folk guslars Dragan Vladicic and Novica Stanic.
