Lexington ROCOR Parish Seeks Support to Purchase and Restore New Church Building
Mission parish seeks donations to acquire a historic Winchester church as a permanent home for Orthodox worship.
LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY — St. Matrona Mission has an accepted offer on a historic 1927 church building in nearby Winchester and is seeking support to make the new space a home for Orthodox Christian worship. The parish is raising funds to cover the down payment, reduce the mortgage, and restore the building for traditional Orthodox services.
The mission, established in 2001 under the Eastern American Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, initially held services in Versailles and later in an office/storefront in Lexington. With space running short, parishioners were drawn to the Winchester building’s vaulted ceilings, stained glass, bell tower, and room for a refectory, envisioning a vibrant community hub for generations.
Donations will be used for mortgage reduction, essential renovations—including iconography, altar furnishings, heating, and accessibility upgrades—and, if necessary, will be saved for future church projects. Supporters can contribute via the mission’s GiveSendGo page.
This move reflects the mission’s ongoing growth and dedication to Orthodox faith in central Kentucky.
