Vatopedi and Simonopetra to Host Symposium Honoring Elder Emilianos

The event will take place in Athens on May 8.

KARYES — Athens will host an International Theological Symposium from May 8–10, 2026, commemorating Elder Aimilianos Simonopetritis (1934–2019), the revered former abbot of Simonopetra Monastery on Mount Athos.

According to Orthodoxia News Agency, the event is being organized by Vatopedi and Simonopetra monasteries. It is titled “Memory and Honor of Elder Aimilianos: Martyr of God’s Glory and Guide in the Spirit”

It opens at Christmas Theater on May 8 at 5:00 PM with sessions at Wyndham Grand Hotel on May 9–10.

Distinguished Orthodox hierarchs, abbots, abbesses, theologians, and scholars will explore his ascetic life, spiritual guidance, theological legacy, and enduring impact on modern Orthodox monasticism and spirituality.
