WARSAW — On Oct. 27, 2025, under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Met. Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, the autumn session of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Polish Orthodox Church took place, according to the official Church website.

The Synod reaffirmed the Polish Orthodox Church’s unchanged position regarding existing divisions within global Orthodoxy and called for the convening of a Pan-Orthodox Council aimed at restoring ecclesial unity.

The bishops also discussed the state of theological dialogue with the Roman Catholic and Evangelical Churches, as well as cooperation with the World Council of Churches and the Conference of European Churches.

Earlier, in October 2022, the Episcopal Council of the Polish Orthodox Church had appealed to His Holiness Pat. Bartholomew to convene a Synaxis of Primates to address the situation concerning the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). At that time, the Polish hierarchs reaffirmed their non-recognition of the OCU’s canonicity and emphasized the need for a conciliar solution to the problem of schism.

Previously, UOJ reported that a proposed Polish law banning "Bandera symbols," linked to controversial Ukrainian ultra-nationalist and Nazi collaborator, Stepan Bandera, has strained ties between Ukraine and Poland
