LOS ANGELES — Hollywood is experiencing a resurgence of faith-based entertainment, from big-budget films to streaming series. Productions like Angel Studios’ animated musical David, which has already sold over $14 million in pre-release tickets, and Fox Nation’s docudrama Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints are drawing large audiences. Francesca Scorsese said directing an episode about Carlo Acutis reignited her own faith, reflecting her father’s lifelong engagement with spirituality in film.

As reported by the AP, industry executives credit shows like The Chosen and Amazon’s House of David for demonstrating the commercial and cultural potential of religious storytelling. Studios are investing in projects that balance artistry and faith perspectives, including sequels to The Passion of the Christ and films like I Can Only Imagine 2.

While defining “faith-based” content remains challenging, the trend suggests a growing appetite for stories that explore belief, values, and morality, blending mainstream appeal with spiritual themes in ways previously uncommon in Hollywood.

Previously, the UOJ reported on the January 2026 release of Moses the Black, a film that reimagines St. Moses the Black as a modern Chicago gangster.
