Bishops’ Council of Polish Church calls on RF to stop the war in Ukraine
On March 22, 2022, the Council of Bishops of the Polish Orthodox Church decided to turn to the authorities of the Russian Federation with an appeal to stop hostilities in Ukraine, the official website of the Church reports.
The Polish bishops stated that because of the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine, a difficult time of fratricidal battles began, which continues to this day.
“As a result, the normal life of citizens has been disrupted, many innocent people have been killed, and the degradation of church and public life is progressing. Material goods are being destroyed: temples, monuments, critical infrastructure facilities and residential buildings,” the Council’s resolution says.
They compared the war in Ukraine to how Cain killed his brother Abel, and noted that they could not understand the reasons why two fraternal Orthodox and Slavic peoples were fighting each other. Therefore, they call on the Russian authorities to stop the war.
“Both in the Old Testament and today God calls out to all participants in hostilities: “The Lord said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground” (Genesis 4:10). The Holy Bishops' Council of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church, guided by this biblical truth, calls on the authorities of the Russian Federation, headed by the President, to stop hostilities in Ukraine, viewing them as evil and incomprehensible,” the decision of the Council of Bishops of the Polish Church says.
As the UOJ reported, Phanar announced that the Primate of the Polish Church had invited Patriarch Bartholomew to Poland.
