Abbot Gabriel says worship may begin by year’s end as monastery prepares for dormitory and work-building projects.

WAYNE, WV — Holy Cross Monastery (ROCOR) has announced significant progress on its new church and outlined several major construction projects planned for the coming year. According to Abbot Gabriel, the stone flooring in the new church is nearing completion, and the brotherhood hopes to begin holding daily services in the space before the end of the year.

The abbot reported that, through the generosity of benefactors, the monastery has secured full funding for all structural elements of the church. Remaining work focuses on its liturgical completion — including the iconostasis, frescoes, furnishings, and other items required for divine services. Iconographers who previously painted the Hospitality of Abraham in the new trapeza have been hired to fresco the church interior and complete the main tier of the iconostasis.

Looking ahead to next year, the monastery plans to begin construction on a new dormitory to house incoming monastic aspirants and to provide care facilities for elderly monks. A new work building is also planned to support the expansion of monastic industries that sustain the community.

The monastery also shared initial architectural renderings (shown below) of the upcoming structures and expressed gratitude for the prayers and support of its benefactors, encouraging the faithful to assist the continued growth of Orthodox monasticism in America.

Previously, UOJ reported that Holy Cross Monastery had marked major milestones in the completion of the new church.
