Eight Baptized as Orthodox Mission Expands in Cuba
Eight new Orthodox Christians were baptized in Havana as Met. Iakovos combined sacramental ministry with charitable outreach during his visit to Cuba.
HAVANA — A joyful mass Baptism was celebrated in Cuba on Saturday, December 6, the new calendar feast of St. Nicholas, at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Havana. Met. Iakovos of Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean Islands presided during his pastoral visit to the island.
According to the diocese, six adults and two children were received into the Orthodox Church, marking a significant moment of growth for the local faithful.
Earlier that morning, Met. Iakovos visited a clinic for children with cerebral palsy, where he spent more than an hour offering comfort, affection, and encouragement. He also distributed ten specialized wheelchairs and other donated items, gifts provided through the generosity of supporters of the Church.
Orthodoxy in Cuba is represented by both the Constantinople and Moscow Patriarchates, each working to nurture and support the island’s small but growing Orthodox Christian community.
