Teaching the Faith at Home: A Gentle Orthodox Homeschool Approach

“The only thing you can take to heaven is your children.”

One of my favorite memories happened when my husband, son, and I walked into church one Sunday and my son, who was about three at the time, exclaimed, after seeing the Pantocrator Icon, “It’s Jesus!” Bear in mind, we were a few minutes late and service had already started. What followed were several parishioners in the pews turning around with huge beaming smiles on their faces and looking to see the child who had made such an excited proclamation.

Walking into church, should we not be just as excited as my three-year-old? We are entering the house of the Lord, and we are all His children! The Church is heaven on earth and how we walk into it should remind us that that is how we will walk into heaven - no material possessions, just our children, if we bring them with us.
