In his Nativity encyclical, Abp. Makarios of Kenya - who is under the Patriarchate of Alexandria - referred to the teachings of "St. Seraphim Rose."

NAIROBI — In his Christmas encyclical for 2025, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Kenya — the Patriarchate of Alexandria's Exarch of All Eastern Africa — recalled one of the teachings of "St. Seraphim Rose" to his flock.

"I therefore urge you, my beloved, to be your brother's and sister's keeper," he wrote. "Let us share what little we have, support one another, and ensure that no one is forgotten at our festive tables. As St. Seraphim Rose taught, true Christianity is lived not in words alone, but in repentance, humility, and love that flows outward to others. A heart touched by Christ cannot remain closed to the suffering of a neighbor."

This comes shortly after the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) established a commission to investigate the life of Fr. Seraphim Rose earlier this month.

"As we rejoice in the birth of our Savior," His Eminence concludes, "I extend my heartfelt blessings to you all. May the newborn Christ grant you peace, strengthen your families, bless your work, and give you hope for the coming year."

Previously, UOJ reported that a St. Vladimir's Seminary graduate was consecrated as bishop of the Diocese of Kisumu and Western Kenya.
