Met. Nicolae Approves Romanian Orthodox Mission in Albany
The Romanian Orthodox Church has officially established a mission in Albany, New York, providing a permanent spiritual home for Romanian faithful in the region.
ALBANY, NY — The Romanian Orthodox Church has formally established a new mission in Albany, New York, marking a significant milestone for Romanian faithful living in the state capital. The Romanian Orthodox Mission in Albany was officially approved on April 10, 2025, during a meeting of the Eparchial Council chaired by Met. Nicolae, head of the Romanian Orthodox faithful in the Americas.
The mission was created in response to longstanding pastoral needs in the region and placed under the spiritual patronage of St. Jacob (Iacob) of Putna. Organization of the community and pastoral preparation were entrusted to Deacon Sergiu Concu, under the guidance of Fr. Vicar and Protopresbyter Daniel Ene.
The community currently gathers for Divine Liturgy at least once a month at a local Greek Orthodox church, which hosts the Romanian faithful. Sacramental life has already taken root through baptisms, weddings, and memorial services. During the Nativity Fast, parishioners came together in prayer, traditional caroling, and the Mystery of Holy Unction, culminating in the celebration of Christmas with renewed hope and unity.
Previously, the UOJ reported that a Romanian Orthodox church in Massachusetts had celebrated 100 years of faith and fellowship.
