St. Michael Orthodox Church Announces January Spiritual Retreat with Mt. Athos Elder
St. Michael Orthodox Church will host a January spiritual retreat in Southbridge featuring Mt. Athos elder Bishop Emilianos, offering talks, services, and guidance rooted in Orthodox tradition.
SOUTHBRIDGE, MA — St. Michael Orthodox Church has announced a three-day spiritual retreat scheduled for January 16–18, continuing its longstanding tradition of hosting monastics and clergy rooted in the Orthodox spiritual heritage.
The retreat will feature Bsp. Emilianos, a spiritual elder who lived for nearly 14 years alongside the future saint Geronta Emilianos of the Simonopetra Monastery on Mount Athos. Participants at the parish’s November 2025 Philocalic Nights were previously introduced to the bishop, who is also known as Geronta Emilianos.
The parish highlighted remarks by Met. Hierotheos Vlahos, who described how holiness is transmitted through a life shaped by grace and tradition. Organizers say the retreat aims to offer spiritual nourishment and guidance amid modern challenges.
During the weekend, Bsp. Emilianos is expected to deliver two talks and serve liturgical services, including a Sunday sermon. A third lecture may be offered by Geronta Yeronimos of St. Katherine the Great Monastery in Greece. A full schedule will be released soon.
Previously, the UOJ reported that St. Michael Orthodox Church celebrated 100 years of faith and fellowship.
