Alexandria Celebrates Patr. Theodore’s Name Day
Patr. Theodore’s name day celebrations underscored enduring unity between Alexandria and Mt. Sinai.
ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT — With great solemnity, the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Theodore the Recruit was celebrated on February 16–17, marking the name day of Patr. Theodore II of Alexandria. The Patriarch presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Monastery of St. Sabbas the Sanctified, joined by hierarchs including Abp. Symeon of Sinai and representatives of the Greek and local communities.
In his address, the Patriarch emphasized the historic and spiritual bonds between the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Monastery of St. Catherine, recalling their long-standing relationship and the 1932 agreement that affirmed canonical order. He likened Abp. Symeon to a “new Moses,” guiding the Sinaitic Brotherhood through contemporary challenges.
The celebrations concluded with an official reception and the Patriarch’s gift of his personal encolpion to the Archbishop — a sign of unity between Sinai’s desert witness and Alexandria’s missionary ministry across Africa.
