Hellenic College Holy Cross announced a presidential transition as Dr. Demetrios Katos prepares to step down March 1.

BROOKLINE, MA — The Board of Trustees of Hellenic College Holy Cross announced February 24 that President and Professor of Theology Demetrios S. Katos will step aside from his leadership role effective March 1, 2026.

Dr. Katos informed Abp. Elpidophoros earlier this month of his intention to transition from the presidency. He will take a sabbatical before returning to teach in the spring semester of the new academic year. “This is the right time for me and for the school,” Katos said, expressing gratitude for the institution’s recent progress and “momentum like never before.”

Abp. Elpidophoros praised Katos’ “catalytic” leadership, citing strengthened governance, improved finances, and the advancement of a multi-year strategic plan. The Board appointed the Rev. Protopresbyter Michael Lambakis as Interim President and formed a Presidential Search Committee to conduct a national search.

Previously, the UOJ reported that HCHC approved a major land sale to bolster future growth.
