Bp. Vasily Leads Young Adults in Faith and Fellowship
Young adults from across the Diocese of the West deepened faith, fellowship, and service at a three-day Summit in Poway.
POWAY, CA — Nearly 40 young adults from across the Diocese of the West of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) gathered at St. John of Damascus Church for a three-day Young Adult Summit, combining worship, discussion, service, and fellowship in San Diego County.
Under the guidance of His Grace, Bp. Vasily, participants attended divine services, engaged in conversations on vocations and spiritual life, and took part in a service project organized by YES. Keynote speakers included Jason Oneida of CrossRoad Institute, seminarian Dimitrios Rentel, and Archpriest Josiah Trenham, who addressed the role of conscience in spiritual life. Panel discussions explored how young Orthodox Christians navigate 21st-century challenges, including artificial intelligence and faith retention among peers.
Social activities at Balboa Park, Coronado Beach, and shared meals strengthened community bonds. Summit organizers highlighted the importance of cultivating faith, fostering parish engagement, and nurturing leadership among young adults. Liturgical celebrations concluded with Bp. Vasily’s parish visitation, emphasizing loving one’s neighbor as a reflection of God’s love.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Orthodox young adults united in Washington, D.C. for the Connect Conference.
