Saint Emmelia Retreat Brings Orthodox Homeschool Families Together
Orthodox homeschool families gathered in Pennsylvania for a retreat marked by worship, learning, and fellowship.
LIGONIER, PA — The Saint Emmelia Ministries EAST Homeschool Retreat drew nearly 140 participants, volunteers, and vendors to Antiochian Village Camp, where Orthodox homeschooling families were welcomed with a sign reading “Welcome home, Homeschoolers! Welcome to AV Camp,” setting a tone of hospitality and fellowship.
Over the weekend of April 30-May 2, Orthodox homeschooling families from the eastern states, some traveling from as far as Florida, gathered to learn, rest, and connect. Parents attended lectures by Fr. John Oliver and the CiRCE Institute's Andrew Kern centered on the theme "Weathering Hardships" and participated in mom and dad discussion groups, while the youth (3-18) attended activities ranging from contradance to nature walks to "Ask Abouna." All this was mingled with two-three services per day, campfires, and a range of family activities.
The community fellowshipped over the four-day gathering, with families rejoicing with and supporting one another in worship and daily life. For more information about future events, visit the St. Emmelia Ministries website.
