Abp. Apostolos to Be Enthroned as Archbishop of Canada Today

TORONTO, ON — Abp. Apostolos, newly elected Archbishop of Canada, arrived in Canada on September 16 ahead of his enthronement today at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas in Toronto, formally beginning a new chapter for the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada.

The enthronement is scheduled for 11 a.m. on September 19. Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew has appointed Abp. Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain as his Patriarchal Representative for the ceremony. Abp. Nikitas is traveling to Canada with Archdeacon Dr. Georgios Tsouros and Fr. Pavlos Lambrou.

Abp. Apostolos, who previously served as Metropolitan of New Jersey, was unanimously elected to lead the Canadian Archdiocese by the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate on July 22. His appointment follows years of ministry in the United States.

Before his departure from New Jersey, Abp. Apostolos was honored at a farewell dinner hosted by Abp. Elpidophoros of America and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey. The gathering marked the conclusion of his ministry there and his transition to his new ecclesiastical responsibility in Canada.

His enthronement will formally establish him as head of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada, one of the dioceses of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the diaspora. The ceremony is scheduled to be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.
