OCA Diocese of the Midwest Hosts Fourth Annual Seminarian Retreat

CHICAGO — The Diocese of the Midwest recently welcomed current and incoming seminarians for its fourth annual seminarian retreat, offering three days of prayer, fellowship, and spiritual formation under the leadership of Abp. Daniel of Chicago and the Midwest.

Held July 20-22 at the diocesan chancery and Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago, the retreat brought together seminarians already pursuing theological studies as well as students preparing to begin their first semester this fall. Abp. Daniel organized the gathering to strengthen personal relationships with the future clergy of the diocese while encouraging them in their spiritual and vocational journeys.

The retreat began with the seminarians' arrival in Chicago, where they shared dinner with the Archbishop and spent the evening in fellowship. The following day featured a formal introduction to the Diocese of the Midwest and its ministries, followed by a tour of Chicago before participants assembled for Great Vespers.

The gathering concluded on July 22, the feast of St. Mary Magdalene, with Abp. Daniel presiding at the Divine Liturgy at Holy Trinity Cathedral. Seminarians assisted with the liturgical services through chanting and serving in the altar before taking part in final discussions and receiving the Archbishop's blessing for their return home.

Beyond the annual retreat, the Diocese of the Midwest continues to support those preparing for ordained ministry through its yearly September seminarian fundraising campaign. Proceeds from the appeal are directed toward assisting seminarians with the costs of their theological education as they prepare for future service in the Orthodox Church.
