Abp. Daniel Makes Historic Visit to St. Paul Monastery
St. Paul Monastery's patronal feast drew more than 100 pilgrims for a historic visit by Abp. Daniel.
BOSCOBEL, WI — More than 100 pilgrims gathered at St. Paul Monastery for its patronal feast July 11-12 as Abp. Daniel of Chicago and the Diocese of the Midwest made his first archpastoral visit to the monastery, marking the first hierarchical service there in two decades.
The festal weekend began Saturday with the Archbishop's arrival, where he was welcomed by the monastic brotherhood and faithful assembled for the celebration. Great Vespers was served by Fr. Herman Kincaid, chancellor of the Diocese of the Midwest, followed by a meal in the monastery's trapeza that brought together pilgrims and members of the monastic community.
On Sunday, the Feast of St. Paul, Abp. Daniel presided at the Divine Liturgy, concelebrating with Fr. Herman, Fr. Menas, the monastery's superior, and Dcn. Justin Hickman. A traditional monastic meal followed the services, giving visitors an opportunity to continue the feast in fellowship with the brotherhood.
During his visit, Abp. Daniel also met with monastic inquirers and prospective candidates interested in the St. John of Chicago Institute, discussing opportunities for formation and discernment in the monastic life.
The weekend's celebrations highlighted both the monastery's patronal feast and the significance of welcoming a hierarch for the first time in approximately 20 years, making the event a memorable occasion for the monastery and the many pilgrims in attendance.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Abp. Daniel led a thanksgiving service for America's 250th anniversary.
