Abp. Daniel Leads Thanksgiving Service for America's 250th Anniversary
Orthodox Christians marked America's 250th anniversary with prayers of gratitude, unity, and renewed commitment to faith and country.
CHICAGO — Orthodox Christians in the Midwest joined in prayer and thanksgiving this weekend as His Eminence Abp. Daniel led a special service commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Chicago.
The service followed the recent publication by the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) of the officially approved “Service in Thanksgiving to Almighty God on the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America,” which was authorized by the Holy Synod for use throughout the Church. The observance marked a national milestone while emphasizing gratitude for the freedoms and opportunities enjoyed by Americans.
In a pastoral letter to the clergy of the Diocese of the Midwest, Abp. Daniel blessed the celebration of the thanksgiving service either at the conclusion of Vigil or Vespers on Saturday, July 4, or immediately following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, July 5. He encouraged the faithful to reflect on the nation's heritage of liberty, honor the sacrifices made by those who served the country, and give thanks for the religious freedom that allows Christians to worship openly.
The Archbishop also called for renewed prayer for the nation and its leaders, asking the faithful to seek God's guidance for the United States. He prayed that the country would be blessed with wisdom, justice, peace, and unity, and urged Orthodox Christians to remain steadfast in their service to both Church and society.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Gregory called the faithful to mark America's 250th anniversary with prayer.
