Iconography Project Completed at St. Demetrios Church in Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG, VA — The iconography project at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Williamsburg has been completed by the Christodoulou Iconography Studio, adding new Byzantine sacred art to the parish’s interior.

According to the studio, the project was undertaken in accordance with the principles and traditions of Orthodox iconography, with attention given not only to artistic quality but also to the liturgical and spiritual character of the church. Individual figures and compositions were designed to harmonize with the existing interior while reflecting the traditional language of Byzantine sacred art.

The Christodoulou Iconography Studio said the project was part of its broader effort to serve and preserve the Orthodox iconographic tradition while bringing Byzantine art to churches and places of worship in Greece and abroad. The studio also emphasized the importance of strengthening connections between Greek and Orthodox traditions and Greek-American communities in the United States.

Following the completion of the work, the studio expressed gratitude to St. Demetrios, its parish community, and all those who contributed to the project. The completed iconography marks another step in the studio’s ongoing work to preserve and promote the artistic heritage of the Orthodox Church.
