Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Launches Psaltic Art Library With Funeral Service Book
The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese has launched a new liturgical publishing series with a bilingual musical tradition at its heart and recordings planned for 2027.
NEW YORK — The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America has published "The Funeral Service (Service for Brethren Fallen Asleep)," the first volume of its new Archdiocesan Psaltic Art Library, an initiative to provide liturgical service books and educational resources for Orthodox clergy, chanters, and students.
The hardcover book is available for $60 through Orthodox Marketplace. The project is supported by Leadership 100 and reflects the vision of Abp. Elpidophoros of America to equip Church ministry leaders and workers.
The English hymns in the new volume, approved by the Holy Eparchial Synod, are metered to correspond with the original Greek. The book is intended for parish choirs, cantors, clergy, seminarians, Byzantine music schools, and students of the Psaltic Art. Organizers say the library will eventually include service books and educational texts covering the Church’s sacraments and major services, with each volume accompanied by professional audio recordings.
Recordings of the Funeral Service are expected to become available on major streaming platforms worldwide by early 2027. The initiative builds on the School of Byzantine Music’s Sunday Orthros album series, which comprises 16 albums — eight in English and eight in Greek — covering all eight Byzantine musical modes. Those recordings attracted more than 40,000 Spotify streams from July through October 2026.
Previously, the UOJ reported that the OCA released 15 lessons in its “Blessed Is the Kingdom” curriculum.
