SAN FRANCISCO — Bp. Peter of Seattle celebrated Divine Liturgy in the crypt of the Holy Virgin Cathedral of Our Lady of Joy of All Who Sorrow on October 12, 2026, commemorating the 33rd anniversary of the uncovering of the relics of St. John, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco.

The service took place in the crypt where St. John was buried following his repose. Bp. Peter was assisted by the cathedral clergy, with Archpriest Peter Perekrestov, the cathedral’s dean, leading the priestly assembly.

Following the Divine Liturgy, clergy and faithful processed from the crypt into the cathedral, proceeding to the shrine containing the relics of St. John. The procession marked the conclusion of the liturgical celebration in the place where the saint’s relics are venerated.

The commemoration concluded with a moleben before the reliquary containing St. John’s relics.

Previously, the UOJ reported that restored crosses were returned to San Francisco’s Joy of All Who Sorrow Cathedral.
