Ten Members of Same Family Baptized Orthodox in Texas
Ten members of one family entered the Orthodox Church together after more than a year of catechesis and preparation at a Romanian parish in Texas.
CEDAR PARK, TX — Ten members of the same family were baptized Orthodox at the Nativity of the Mother of God Romanian Orthodox Parish near Austin, Texas, following more than a year of catechesis, prayer, study, and preparation. As reported by Basilica News Agency, the Baptismal Divine Liturgy took place on September 27, with each newly baptized family member accompanied by a godparent.
According to parish priest Fr. Gabriel Ilieș, the family had spent years exploring different Christian communities before beginning their journey toward Orthodoxy. He said the family members described feeling a sense of familiarity when they first entered an Orthodox church and believed they had found the Church they had been seeking.
The parish community supported the family throughout their catechumenate, and Fr. Gabriel described the baptism as a significant occasion for the congregation. “It was much more than a beautiful service,” he said, calling the event a testimony that the Church continues to welcome those who sincerely seek Christ and wish to enter fully into its sacramental life.
The parish priest thanked God for guiding the family and said he prayed that Christ would strengthen the newly baptized and keep them close to the Church throughout their lives.
