TRC Detains Protodeacon of Neshcheriv Monastery

NESHCHERIV, UKRAINE — Protodeacon Oleksandr Yuvko, a cleric of Neshcheriv Monastery, was detained by officers of Ukraine’s Territorial Recruitment Center (TRC) on Aug. 9, according to a statement published by the monastery. The incident occurred after Yuvko had attended the Sunday Divine Liturgy and was returning home.

The monastery has asked the faithful to pray for the clergyman. The statement identified Yuvko as a protodeacon serving at the monastery but did not provide additional information about the circumstances surrounding his detention.

Yuvko’s detention comes amid the ongoing mobilization effort in Ukraine, where TRCs are responsible for military registration and mobilization procedures. The monastery did not state why the protodeacon was detained or whether he had previously received any summons or other notification from the recruitment authorities.

The monastery has appealed to its community for prayers for Yuvko while further details remain unavailable.
