UOC Hieromonk Taken by Recruitment Officers on His Birthday
UOC Hieromonk Viktor Denisov was mobilized into the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Khmelnytskyi on his birthday and name day, according to the Pokrov Vicariate.
KHMELNYTSKYI, UKRAINE — Hieromonk Viktor (Denisov), a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) and the Pokrov Vicariate, was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine on September 28, according to the vicariate. The report said the mobilization took place on the hieromonk’s birthday and name day.
The Pokrov Vicariate stated that officers of the Khmelnytskyi Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center carried out the mobilization and alleged that it violated Ukrainian legislation. The vicariate described the action as unlawful and called on clergy and faithful to intensify their prayers for Hieromonk Viktor’s safety.
The report did not provide further details about the circumstances of the mobilization. It appealed for prayers for the hieromonk’s health, protection, and strength as he enters military service.
The vicariate also marked Hieromonk Viktor’s birthday and name day, wishing him “patience, courage, spiritual strength, and God’s help in this difficult time for him.” The mobilization comes amid continued concerns raised by representatives of the UOC over the treatment of its clergy during the ongoing war.
Previously, the UOJ reported that police expelled a UOC priest and parishioners from a church in Biloziria.
