UOC Primate meets with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine and the Primate of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church
On May 17, 2019, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kiev and All Ukraine met with the Primate of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, the UOC Information and Education Department reported.
The Primates of the Jerusalem and Ukrainian Orthodox Churches met as part of the pilgrimage visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Holy Land. During the conversation with His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, Patriarch Theophilos III expressed support for the UOC and its believers.
“The Orthodox Church is always in a state of trial and persecutions from the world. In this regard, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is living through a special period in its history. In the Jerusalem Orthodox Church they always pray at the Orthodox shrines of the Holy Land for the Lord to preserve this Church and Her faithful in Ukraine,” stressed the Primate of the Jerusalem Orthodox Church.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry thanked his counterpart for his prayers and conveyed his thanks to all the clergy and faithful of the Jerusalem Church. The Primates of two Orthodox Churches exchanged gifts.
Recall that in the near future, the Primate of the Cyprus Orthodox Church, Archbishop Chrysostom II of Cyprus, is going to discuss the Ukrainian religious conflict with the Primates of the Serbian, Bulgarian and Greek Orthodox Churches. He also plans to keep the head of the Albanian Orthodox Church, Archbishop Anastasios of Tirana and All Albania, informed on the progress of the dialogue.
Besides, on May 14, 2019, Archbishop Chrysostom II of Cyprus is to meet with the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, to propose to the Patriarch of Moscow a plan for solving the “Ukrainian church problem”.
