Synod of Romanian Church adopts resolution on Romanian parishes in Ukraine

On February 9, 2023, the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church adopted a resolution on the situation of Romanian Orthodox parishes in Ukraine, reports basilica.ro.

The Synod meeting, which was held at the Patriarchate Palace in Bucharest, was chaired by Romanian Patriarch Daniel.

The text of the resolution "on the situation of Romanian Orthodox parishes in the area of northern Bukovina which are under the jurisdiction of the UOC", said that "the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church firmly adheres to its favourable position regarding the observance of rights and freedoms of Romanian communities throughout Ukraine, as Ukrainians are respected throughout Romania".

The Synod also announced the Romanian Church's assistance to refugees from Ukraine for the year 2022, which amounted to 42,904,050 lei (approximately 8,700,000 euros).

Other decisions of the Synod included issues of personnel order, organization of the internal life of the Church, adoption of liturgical texts, etc.

As earlier reported, Romania urged Bukovina communities of the UOC to join the Romanian Church.
